Olympic gold

Ab Renaud was a member of Canada’s men’s hockey team that won the gold medal at the 1948 Olympics. He lives in Westboro. I photographed him last year on the 60th anniversary, for the Kitchissippi Times.

  1. Where have you gone? I hope you haven’t abandoned this blog – I love the concept, and you’ve dug up some fascinating local ephemera.

  2. My father, Hugh Riopelle, Ottawa resident, was chosen to represent Canada on the same 1948 ice hockey team. At the time, he was the leading goal scorer for St Pat’s college. A few week before they were set to fly out to Switzerland for the games, the coach for St Pat’s informed my dad that he would not allow him to go. St Pats was in the city finals, and he couldn’t afford to lose their leading scorer… Pat MacAdam wrote a book on this team, titled Gold Medal Misfits.
